Steven McDermott

Steven E. McDermott Steve-o loved to laugh 1955 ~ 2010 Steven E. McDermott was born to C. Eugene and Mary Ann McDermott on August 20th, 1955. The Lord called our sweet Stevie home Wednesday, December 29th at 8:38 a.m. after a valiant five-year struggle with Chondrosarcoma cancer. He was embraced by the Lord and was awaited by many angels who were excited to see him. Stevie was surrounded by his family who knew that it was time for him to return home and we feel at peace knowing he is anxiously anticipating the day to hug his family once more and be together again. He told us he would watch over and protect us and we continually feel his love and care. We are confident that upon his return, Heaven became a more entertaining place. His parents taught him to work and never quit, to love his family and to go to them for counsel and advice. His mother instilled in him a love for reading and a real sense of humor. He graduated from Olympus High School in 1973 where he played football. He then served the Lord honorably in the LDS Bogotá Colombia mission between 1974 and 1976. This experience helped him develop a deep love for the Colombian people, The Lord and the Gospel. Upon his return he courted and married Becky Davis his sweetheart, "fire of his loins" and the mother of his three children. In 1980 he graduated from the University of Utah with a Business and Marketing degree. Steve was instrumental in starting a family medical supply business, Bio-Logics where he served as an owner and the Vice President of Marketing. Steve loved to spend time with his family and make anyone and everyone laugh. He felt blessed to have such a wonderful wife Becky and children Melissa, James (Rosalie) and Thomas (Breanna). Along with the two most perfect grandchildren Deacon James and Londyn Jane. Steve often expressed that he felt his life was better than he deserved and more than he ever could have hoped for. He had a great love for Olympus football and soccer, Utah rugby and football, Snowbird, and Subway sandwiches. Stevie was welcomed home by his in-laws Merrill K. and Ione McKean Davis, grandparents Jim and Edna Dixon, Henry and Clara McDermott. He will be missed by his parents Gene and Mary Ann, siblings Kathy (Eric Welling), Scott (Lisa), Robert (Deanna) and many brothers and sisters-in-law, cousins, nieces, nephews and friends. Our deepest heartfelt thanks to the wonderful nurses, doctors and ER staff at University and Huntsman Hospitals who saw him through his battle with cancer. There were many prayers and good thoughts from around the world offered for Stevie and his family and they were felt and buoyed us up in the moments we needed them most. A viewing will be held in his honor on Tuesday, January 4th from 6 to 8 p.m. at Larkin Sunset Gardens, 1950 E. 10600 S., Sandy and the LDS Stake House, 8170 S. Short Hills Dr. (3425 E.) Cottonwood Heights on Wednesday, January 5th from 9:45 a.m. to 10:45 a.m. prior to funeral services at 11 a.m. In honor of Stevie and because LIVESTRONG was his mantra, please wear a touch of yellow.
