Bill Swensen

William Hunter Swensen Jr. "Billy" Born May 28, 1955 to Addie and William Swensen Sr. passed away at home on Wednesday, August 17th at 2:00 p.m. after fighting a brave eight year battle with cancer. He was the poster patient for NIH because he did so well in the clinical trial that they kept it going just for him. Billy and I exchanged vows in St. Thomas on Megans Beach in July of 1993. Bill was my "Creative Genius" and I was his "Queenie". Our first date, we played tennis and had a blast. Bill designed our Wedding invitations and guests commented on how unique they were as he had taken our profiles and used them on the invitations to create his usual masterpiece. Bill was a talented artist he ran his own Graphic Design Firm; one of the most well known firms in Utah, Richards & Swensen Graphic Design. Some of my favorite pieces he designed, which are still in use today are; the Nutcracker Logo for Ballet West and the Candy Cane Treble Clef logo for the Utah Symphony. Bill was also a talented with watercolors. He won many awards for his artwork and designs; one example was the "Healthy Utah Fitness Logo which won an award from the Governor. Bill had an eye for what would look good; he designed a spectacular contemporary home which we built on the Eaglewood Golf Course where we enjoyed having our meals in the backyard and gazing over the valley. Bill loved Island Park where we owned a cabin in Box Canyon. He loved to fish at Warm River and on Henry's Lake. We would make runs up to Ennis where we would golf and snag some great bratwurst to grill. We had fun floating down the snake in the rafts and visiting West Yellowstone where we would have an ice cream and some fudge and head over to the Playmill Theatre. Bill enjoyed golfing, his favorite course was Eaglewood. He also loved to travel, we spent many summers in Europe where we visited Wineries and spent long hours admiring art in various Museums. In Italy, he raced to the top of Brunelleschi's Dome with his son Andrew and brother-in-law David. He loved fine food and we had a wonderful meal at the Jules Verne Restaurant at the top of the Eiffel Tower. Our last family trip was spent in Hawaii where we golfed the Kapaluha and Kanapali courses. Bill had many hobbies, he was an excellent photographer; he loved gargoyles and took many photos of the Gargoyles on the Notre Dame Cathedral and around Paris. He also took Bonsai classes with his brother-in-law Steven and they cared for their numerous Bonsai plants together. Bill was a generous person; he loved to give gifts and always knew just what everyone would like. He had a great fashion sense and would bring home beautiful outfits for me "just because". Bill graduated from the University of Utah and was an avid Utes fan, never missed a football game. He also loved music and had an extensive collection of CD's. He was a patron of the Arts and enjoyed attending concerts, at the Red Butte Gardens, and attending Theatre League plays. Bill loved Marley, our beautiful Wheaton Terrier whom he affectionately named Marley after Bob Marley. Marley was his companion and a great source of comfort to Bill during his illness. I love you Bill, you are now free from pain. You will be missed by family and friends, but we know you are in a wonderful place with your loved ones who have gone before you.
